Getting Started
While self service coin laundries can vary greatly in size and configuration, 1,500 to 2,000 sq. ft. is a good starting point (though smaller spaces in the right location can have positive results as well). Using the 2,000-square-foot store as a model, the upfront cost to the investor would be roughly $90,000 with $250,000 financed, for a total project cost of about $340,000.
As mentioned at the start, coin laundries largely sell their customers time savings. Therefore, investors are not encouraged to start small and gradually add equipment to the store as business ramps up. The last thing self service coin laundry owners want is customers waiting around for machines during peak business periods. Customers will go elsewhere so they don’t have to wait for machines to become available. Investors’ best course is to build on par with what the market will support. Remember, the time savings your machines provide may be lost if customers find them all in use.
